IL1B Induced Smad 7 Negatively Regulates Gastrin Expression

Stimulation with IL1B results in an increase in Smad7 levels which inhibits the TGF-beta pathway by blocking the nuclear localization of the regulatory Smad 2/3/4 complex. On the other hand, IL1B also activates the NFKB pathway which plays a direct role in repression of the gastrin gene expression. Dotted arrows represent pathways that are yet to be established.
